Our Story:
Situated in Toronto, Atelier SUN is a multi-disciplinary design studio that delivers design as experiences – blending architectural, interior design and furniture design elements, the studio explores how spaces can transform, convey emotion, create a state of mind, and respond to lifestyle.
Inspired by the convergence of Asian and Canadian design ethos and culture, our studio endeavors to make the familiar-unfamiliar, looking at new ways to challenge conventional design principals, craftsmanship in application and manipulation of materials, and creating a sense of exploration to spaces to spark emotion and the unexpected.
The studio is currently involved in projects through North America and Asia with worldwide clientele in residential, hospitality, retail, and healthcare. Working with clients to create unique experiences that tell their story.
About Andrew Sun:
I’ve always been driven by the desire to create something new, starting with order, symmetry as a baseline and distorting it to bend our perception of what we expect – curating the human response and emotion. Similar to what cinema does to us, it takes familiar life stories and manipulates it to tell a compelling one. This is what I hope to achieve with design: telling life stories through play of space, colour, light, and how we perceive them.
My desire to create something new and the need to tell a story in unconventional ways often leads me to define abstract feelings like luxury through subtlety and humility or feeling of peace and fulfillment in contrasting the familiar with the unfamiliar. it is based on this that myself and the studio find its identity – a studio full of storytellers, design technicians, experts in their craft, and exploders, always in the search of creating something new.
Studio Culture:
Atelier Sun is all about high collaboration between clients and our design all throughout the process. We pride ourselves in creating a genuine bespoke service for the architectural / interior design industry.
As a team – we encourage exploration, trust our instincts and find surprises in design and craft. Our studio is meant to be a creative hub for both the old craft of how things were made and latest technology integration for the built space.
