Manchester house is a residential renovation for a couple and their two children in Toronto, Canada. As part of the celebration of the recent birth of the second boy, the owner decided to create a spacious room for family gatherings and to serve as a play area for the children.
The concept was to create a space that will continually reveal unexpected pleasant surprises. Openings in the stairs and foyer wall of different heights and sizes transform the walls into a sculptural element while at the same time creating a connection between the dining/living room and the staircase. A movable partition replaces the narrow kitchen door, increasing openness and providing flexibility for a variety of social situations that might require the division of the rooms.
